A year in review
Catch up on current news from the field of hospital medicine.
No one is immune to the overwhelming inundation of information, whether that be in personal life or professional practice. In fact, it’s normal to feel confused by or behind on consuming news that matters most.
Sunday’s session, “Update in Hospital Medicine,” will incorporate highpoints from the latest journals, articles and studies throughout the field.
Suchita Shah Sata, MD, SFHM, and Zahir Kanjee, MD, MPH, will be leading a discussion aimed at preparing their colleagues for returning to the real world better informed of evidence-based strategies that can ultimately improve patient care.
“Emphasizing the practical applications of the presented updates, we aim for hospitalists to feel empowered to contribute positively to the evolving landscape of hospital medicine,” said Dr. Sata, associate professor of medicine at Duke University School of Medicine in Durham, North Carolina.
The presentation will address updates on common conditions across a range of specialties that hospitalists frequently encounter, including:
- Cardiology
- Infectious disease
- Critical care
- Perioperative care
- Pulmonology
“One of the things that makes hospital medicine so much fun is the breadth of conditions we get to see, diagnose and manage every day,” said Dr. Kanjee, a hospitalist at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.
Drs. Sata and Kanjee hope attendees will gain a deeper understanding of essential issues as well as a dose of enthusiasm for their work. And although the session will address serious subjects, they plan to keep the mood light and enjoyable.
“Don't expect some stellar singing like last year, but do expect to laugh — either with us or at us,” Dr. Sata said.
