What have we learned?
SHM Converge 2026’s course director recaps what he learned at SHM Converge 2025.

On the final day of SHM Converge 2025, Alfred Burger, MD, MS, SFHM, professor of medicine and medical education at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and the senior associate program director for the Internal Medicine Residency at Mount Sinai Morningside/West in New York City, explored his takeaways from the meeting and encouraged attendees to join him in taking them back to their practices.
For example, he cited several from the Update in Hospital Medicine session on Thursday. Two included the continued use of noninvasive ventilation for acute exacerbations of COPD and acute hypercapnia, and the fact that semaglutide safely reduces heart failure events in patients with obesity and HFpEF.
Dr. Burger also praised the high-caliber content presented at the meeting, including 35 clinical updates, 21 workshops and a variety of topic-driven tracks, such as Clinical Reasoning and Diagnostics and Bending the Cost Curve for High Value Care.
