SHM Converge 2025 introduces first roundtable discussions
Sessions will cover barriers in medical research, implementing paid time off, and more.

In response to numerous attendee requests and feedback from the Annual Conference Committee, SHM 2025 will host an inaugural Roundtable Discussion event at Converge 2025. This will allow fellow hospitalists to collaborate and explore timely topics. Jade Myers, SHM Director of Meetings, said attendees will hear from a diverse group of hospital medicine professionals regarding a range of issues from institutional concerns to health industry trends.
“It is important for us to listen to our audience and do what we can to meet their needs,” she said. “We’ve received feedback from attendees who are looking for collaboration and discussion around timely topics in an open forum.”
Roundtable discussions will be led by expert moderators to facilitate conversation and keep participants on track. Topics that will be discussed during this collaborative event are listed below:
- Authentic Connections that Bring Joy at Work
- Breaking Down Barriers: Archetypes in Hospital Medicine Research
- Hospitalists and Learners on Direct Care Services
- Implementing Paid Time Off
- Nocturnist Workload: Staffing Models and Burnout Prevention
- Patient Transfers: Referring and Accepting Hospitals — Best Practices
Myers said the goal of selecting these topics is to offer an array of current and wide-ranging discussions that cater to the expressed interest of SHM Converge attendees.
“The SHM Special Interest Group leaders proposed topics of interest, as did attendees themselves,” she said. “Attendees will have the chance to hear from other hospital medicine professionals regarding a range of issues from institutional concerns to health industry trends.”
Participants of this event will be eligible to claim additional CME credit for their attendance. No preregistration is required but seating throughout these table discussions is limited and first come first served. Even though these sessions offer CME credit, Myers said they are different from the traditional educational sessions with a prescribed set of learning objectives and a larger audience.
“These discussions are intended to be more intimate, interactive, and driven by each participant seated at the table,” she said. “A moderator will support the discussion, but these conversations should be meaningful collaborative moments that the participants are not merely observing, but are actively creating.”
